RULES & FAQ below.
http://nesskain.tumblr.com
-No need to be too cool for school.
-You may post the link of your art's page BUT I don't do critics.
-When someone ask me a question please don't answer for me as if you know me.
Do you take commissions ?
Nope, I really don't have time ! Sorry guys.
What software do you use ?
Mangastudio 4EX for comics and drawing.
Mangastudio 5EX for colors.
I draw on MS4 because it's easier and faster for me. It's just a personal preference.
Where can I get your brushes ?
My brushes are here : http://nesskain.deviantart.com/art/Brushes-for-MS5-388943293
They are the basic one from MS5 but I changed the sensitivity.
Why are you using Mangastudio instead of photoshop ?
Well, mangastudio have features that photoshop doesn't have, and photoshop have features that mangastudio doesn't have.
The things I like about MS might not suit you so I won't tell what are the goods, Just give it a try and see if you like it. But don't expect it to be a better version of photoshop. It can be boring but reading the manual helps figuring out how things work. It took me 7 months to fully swap from Painter to Mangastudio.
Do you do tutorials ?
You can find some step by step in my deviantart's gallery and some youtube's videos here: youtube
Are you the bearded guy that you always paint ?
Nope, I'm asian.
Who is the beard guy you are always drawing then?
Just an original character which the design is inspired from a singer , but I won't tell who, hehe...
Where did you learn to draw ?
I learned and still learn with internet, you can find almost everything.I spent a lot of time on Posemaniac to train my eyes to see fast and be accurate. For perspective, I really like the book from David Chelsea, everything he said is very good
I bought the DVD from Scott Robertson, it's really nice for free hand perspective...
For anatomy I learned from photography, at the time I followed a lot of nude photographers on deviantart and drew every pictures every morning...I also learned a lot from this website: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~zm5s-nkmr/ , even if it is in japanese I understood a lot of things.
DVDs from Vilppu was helpful too.
And most important, I learned (and still learning) from drawing from life. Trying to draw every situations!
How did you come up with your drawing style ?
We all have a different way to tackle art, so I don't held the "truth". For my part I didn't look for a drawing style at all. All I want is to make my own story. So I look for stories instead, then my drawing trys to fit the story orĀ the story try to fit the limits of my drawing.Trying to look for a drawing style is a technician's work, I wanted a natural so I let it be as it is.
How much time do you draw ?
I draw 8~18hours a day. the average is 12 hours I think... I can't really say, there are days I don't draw.
Do you use references ?
Yes, I do. When I don't know something I look for it.
What are your inspirations ?
My inspirations are mainly japaneses manga artists, you can find the list here: http://nesskain.deviantart.com/art/Influence-Map-273403109
I don't read a lot of american comics or french comics.
If you guys have other questions, just ask me.
